AUCA Hosts Annual Ambassador Talks Series with the Ambassador of France
On October 7, 2026, the International and Comparative Politics program at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) convened its annual Ambassador Talks Series, entitled “How France and Kyrgyzstan Can Cooperate at the Multilateral Level to Make the World More Peaceful and Sustainable.” The distinguished guest was His Excellency Nicolas Faye, Ambassador of France to the Kyrgyz Republic.
AUCA President Timothy O’Connor inaugurated the event with a welcoming address, in which he presented notable aspects of Ambassador Faye’s professional background.
Ambassador Faye expressed his gratification at visiting AUCA for the third time. He began his remarks with a quotation from The Little Prince and extended his congratulations to Kyrgyzstan on its first-ever election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He affirmed that France anticipates close cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on a number of issues beginning next year.
Among the priorities he outlined was the protection and sustainable management of natural resources, in particular water resources and glaciers, so that people and animals may live in dignity on our planet. He further called for the preservation of biodiversity, the environment, and nature at large.
Question and Answer Session
AUCA students demonstrated their proficiency in French by posing insightful questions to the Ambassador. The discussion addressed the following topics:
• The most rewarding aspects of an ambassador’s work
• Opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and France
• The proposal to establish an association of mountain countries
• The importance of avoiding “green colonialism” in environmental policy
• The Franco-German Institute as a model of cooperation
• Further opportunities available to students
At the conclusion of the event, President O’Connor and Ambassador Faye exchanged gifts as a gesture of goodwill. The Ambassador then took commemorative photographs with the students and spoke personally with all those who wished to engage with him.
